For any program, students must apply, make payments, confirm travel arrangements, and complete enrollment materials. The ACCENT San Francisco Center can administer any or all of these enrollment steps, depending on the needs your college or university. Working with the program leader, the ACCENT staff can produce marketing materials to reach the best possible audience and help recruit students to the program. Some institutions sponsor open-enrollment programs through ACCENT, allowing students from across the U.S. to participate or working through the ACCENT network to form a consortium with a smaller number of similar institutions.
Open Enrollment Program Advising
Prospective students can find details and applications for open-enrollment programs on the ACCENT website, or can call to receive information by mail. Students may also speak with one of ACCENT’s specially-trained staff members to find the program that best matches their academic and personal goals.
ACCENT regularly emails information about its programs to the study abroad offices at schools across the country and lists programs with prominent study abroad search engines such as StudyAbroad.com, GoAbroad.com and Petersons.com. Each fall, members of the San Francisco team travel to campus study abroad fairs, reaching out to students directly and coaching our U.S. partners on successful recruitment techniques.
For all programs, ACCENT also utilizes social media in order to promote programs and maintain a relationship with students during all aspects of their study abroad experience. In addition to the ACCENT Blog, each ACCENT Center maintains a Facebook page and an Instagram account (Paris, Florence, London, Madrid, Rome).
ACCENT publishes and distributes to students a customized pre-departure handbook for every program. In some cases, a member of the ACCENT San Francisco team attends the sponsoring school’s pre-departure orientation to answer students’ questions face-to-face. Before departure day, ACCENT verifies all participants’ travel itineraries and provides them with detailed instructions for their arrival in Europe. Leading up to departure, faculty and administrators also begin to discuss academic and logistical details with the ACCENT Europe teams.
Financial Management and Insurance
The ACCENT San Francisco Center is the primary point of collection for all program fees and depending on the needs of the institution, ACCENT often collects program payments directly from students. Otherwise, students pay through their home institution accounts, and their home institution is in turn invoiced by the ACCENT San Francisco Center. For semester programs, ACCENT works with colleges and universities to allow students who are paying ACCENT directly to use a Deferred Payment Plan in order to coordinate financial aid disbursements with program payment due dates.
