Our History
In 1984, Ray Vernon founded ACCENT as Opportunities in International Learning, an organization based in Paris. In 1991, ACCENT opened its San Francisco Center to support U.S. institutions and students at home, and thereafter expanded to Florence, London, Madrid and Rome.
ACCENT's growth and success are rooted in its extensive institutional partnerships and wide variety of innovative programs, a number of which span more than a decade. Creativity, energy and collaboration have led many universities to offer multiple programs with ACCENT. In 1991, ACCENT hosted over 450 students and 25 programs. Currently, ACCENT has over 3,000 students in 140 programs from 50 different academic institutions. ACCENT frequently updates its Centers and improves its facilities in order to provide quality logistical support for academic programs.

ACCENT's mission is to collaborate with colleges and universities to create study abroad programs of academic integrity and rich cross-cultural focus. We are committed to encouraging each student’s intellectual and personal growth by providing educational opportunities that foster an understanding of different cultures.
